REDEMPTION FOR TIGER WOODS AFTER A HORRIFIC FALL FROM GREAT HEIGHTS EMOTIONALLY AND PHYSICAL

Dr. John H. Braccio talks with Dave Akerly on the “Morning Wake-Up With Dave Akerly” radio show, on 4/16/19 on WLNS, 1320 a.m. in Lansing, Michigan about REDEMPTION FOR TIGER WOODS AFTER A HORRIFIC FALL FROM GREAT HEIGHTS EMOTIONALLY AND PHYSICAL. Tiger woods was at the pinnacle of wondrous fame when the world fell apart on him. His marriage blew up in flames with his wife apparently literally running him out of the house. I believe she even RAZED THEIR HOME TO THE GROUND for good measure. Then the stories came out about his infidelity to ruin his MR CLEAN GOLDEN REPUTATION. Then the physical problems developed as did his problems with pain and medications. On top of all of this, he had drug related interactions with the police. It is reasonable to say Tiger hit the proverbial ROCK BOTTOM. To his credit, he looked up and began the arduous trek back to the top with his exhilarating and improbable winning of his fifth Masters Tournament. It can give courage to all of us in difficult times to always keep our eyes on the ball as we attempt to overcome whatever problems we may encounter. Hopefully, we will have the tenacity to not give up and never let events stop us from moving forward in our lives. It was Churchillian in character as he chose never to surrender to the emotional and physical chaos he was experiencing.

TOLERANCE WITH FRIENDS WILL RESULT IN YOU HAVING THEM

Dr. John H. Braccio talks with Dave Akerly on the “Morning Wake-Up With Dave Akerly” radio show, on 3/19/19 on WLNS, 1320 a.m. in Lansing, Michigan aboutTOLERANCE WITH FRIENDS WILL RESULT IN YOU HAVING THEM. Many people cannot maintain friendships because they set standards so high everyone or most everyone fails their “FRIENDSHIP TEST”. Understanding and compassion are key characteristics of good friendship. A proverb that gives good advice is—WHO SEEKS A FRIEND WITHOUT A FAULT REMAINS WITHOUT ONE.  A good quote on friendship by Charlotte Bronte is—IF WE WOULD BUILD ON A SURE FOUNDATION, WE WOULD LOVE OUR FRIENDS FOR THEIR SAKE RATHER THAN FOR OUR OWN. Another quote about the importance of having good friends is by Euripides—IT IS A GOOD THING TO BE RICH, AND A GOOD THING TO BE STRONG,BUT IT IS A BETTER THING TO BE BELOVED OF MANY FRIENDS.

POSITIVE MALE TRAITS TO BE ENCOURAGED IN MEN

Dr. John H. Braccio talks with Dave Akerly on the “Morning Wake-Up With Dave Akerly” radio show, on 3/12/19 on WLNS, 1320 a.m. in Lansing, Michigan about POSITIVE MALE TRAITS TO BE ENCOURAGED IN MEN. Too much in our society demeans men by stereotyping negative behaviors of specific males to all males and ignoring the same or comparably bad behaviors of women. Men that love their spouses and children need to be highlighted and praised in our society rather than the scoundrels who have children and have little or nothing to do with them or the mothers of the children. We also need to praise men who mentor their children and others to be their best by example, support and encouragement. Men are half of the world population and we need to support them by helping them by example and encouragement free from the ideological stereotypes of the current or past generations. Therapists and clergy need to meet men where they are emotionally and help them find the best ways to be their best and not try to fit them into a mold based on the vagaries of the current age. As appropriate for the person, spirituality can be a great support to give direction to a man’s life where purpose and behavior are inappropriate for positive emotional growth.

HAVING A JOB OR CAREER THEY ENJOY

Dr. John H. Braccio talks with Dave Akerly on the “Morning Wake-Up With Dave Akerly” radio show, on 3/5/19 on WLNS, 1320 a.m. in Lansing, Michigan aboutHAVING A JOB OR CAREER THEY ENJOY is at the top of their long-term goals. A full 63% of teens say that having a job or career they enjoy is extremely important while 32% say it is very important. This shows the importance that young people have in finding a job or career they enjoy. I think we sometimes look at young persons and figure they are confused and really do not know what they want in life. I think this shows they are very similar to other generations of Americans and they still have dreams and goals of having a job or career they enjoy at the very top of the list of the things that they desire. It is interesting that only 18% of teens feel it is extremely important to have a lot of money while 33% feel it is very important. That is quite different when you consider how important having a job or career they enjoy is compared to having a lot of money. Of further interest is that the number two most important thing for teens is to help others who are in need and this comes in at 42% as extremely important and 39% as very important. Getting married comes in at 20% as extremely important and 27% as very important while having children comes in at 16% as extremely important and 23% as very important. Only 5% feel becoming famous is extremely important while 6% feel it Is very important. This information clearly shows that having a job or career they enjoy is the number one most important thing for teens as they look to their future.

70% OF TEENS SEE ANXIETY AND DEPRESSION AS THE MAJOR PROBLEM AMONG THEIR PEERS

Dr. John H. Braccio talks with Dave Akerly on the “Morning Wake-Up With Dave Akerly” radio show, on 2/26/19 on WLNS, 1320 a.m. in Lansing, Michigan about 70% OF TEENS SEE ANXIETY AND DEPRESSION AS THE MAJOR PROBLEM AMONG THEIR PEERS.  The numbers are rising and is ranked  as the number one major problem teens identify as problems being experienced by their peers. Others are bullying at 55%, drug addiction at 51%, drinking alcohol at 45%, poverty at 40%, teen pregnancy and 34%, and gangs of 33%. Dave and Dr. Braccio have talked about the problems of social media at this time as it relates to the difficulties it can cause adults and youth. But teens also have the pressure of developing bodies that they are not aware of how to deal with, complicated social interactions that  they have not experienced in their lives and not sure what to do, an uncertain future for many persons, family breakups with rotating family members, the fear of not getting into appropriate training or school opportunities to advance them in life, and one could even argue that many children are being shielded in life to the point that they are having trouble accepting that part of life is adapting to the difficulties that occur. This does not minimize the many difficulties that teens experience but it is important to be aware that adapting to life and dealing with the difficulties that arise daily are major difficulties for persons of any age and it is important that we guide young persons so that they have the opportunity with mentoring to grow and develop with the goal of helping them reduce anxiety and depression in their teen years and the rest of their lives.

    HOW TO STOP FEELING LONELY

Dr. John H. Braccio talks with Dave Akerly on the “Morning Wake-Up With Dave Akerly” radio show, on 2/19/19 on WLNS, 1320 a.m. in Lansing, Michigan about HOW TO STOP FEELING LONELY.  To begin with, active social media with no human physical contact can make you feel more lonely because there is no human contact and the communication is artificial and not the same as when you see and hug the person with whom you are interacting. Things to do include:  Be kind and understanding of yourself.  Focus on anything positive in your life. Call friends and family and see them again as is possible for joining organization, social group, or a church group you have an interest and get involved.  Focus on the needs of others and not yourself.  Replace negative thoughts with positive ones.  Remember and pay attention to the persons and events that have been very important in your life.  Join an online group of people with the same worldview you have for good positive interaction.  Volunteer and do activities you have a true interest and through the interaction enjoy human personal interaction.  These suggestions and others that you come across in your daily life can help turn your feeling lonely into feeling satisfied and happy with the necessary human interaction that makes you feel good and positive.

UNFORTUNATE OUTCOMES WHEN PARENTS TREAT CHILDREN AS SPOUSES, CONFIDANTS OR NEEDY SUPPORT

Dr. John H. Braccio talks with Dave Akerly on the “Morning Wake-Up With Dave Akerly” radio show, on 2/12/19 on WLNS, 1320 a.m. in Lansing, Michigan about UNFORTUNATE OUTCOMES WHEN PARENTS TREAT CHILDREN AS SPOUSES,CONFIDANTS OR NEEDY SUPPORT. Parents need to help and instruct their children. It is inappropriate for parents to not do this. Negative outcomes would include co-dependence between a parent and child, vulnerability to unfair relationships with spouses and friends, overdeveloped conscience, self-blame in relationships, and poor self-esteem development.

HOW TO SURVIVE WHEN YOU LIVE WITH A TOXIC SPOUSE/PARTNER

Dr. John H. Braccio talks with Dave Akerly on the “Morning Wake-Up With Dave Akerly” radio show, on 2/5/19 on WLNS, 1320 a.m. in Lansing, Michigan about HOW TO SURVIVE WHEN YOU LIVE WITH A TOXIC SPOUSE/PARTNER. Last week we discussed toxicity within relationships. Today we discuss how to survive when you live with the toxic spouse/partner. You must set boundaries that are essential to you and you must enforce them. You must determine if you are co-dependent and somehow actually allowing your spouse/partner to treat you poorly. We must all remember we teach people how to treat us. You must refuse to argue when your spouse/partner tries to use guilt, power or fear to have you drop your boundaries and go back to you accepting behaviors and outlooks that led to so much pain for you and gave so much power to the toxic person to hurt you. When setting boundaries, you must be aware the end of the relationship is a possible outcome when the boundaries are set and you enforce them. Toxic people do not like to stop their toxic behaviors and will do almost anything to maintain them.

HOW TO EFFECTIVELY DISTINGUISH BETWEEN POSITIVE AND NEGATIVE ANGER IN A RELATIONSHIP

Dr. John H. Braccio talks with Dave Akerly on the “Morning Wake-Up With Dave Akerly” radio show, on 1/29/19 on WLNS, 1320 a.m. in Lansing, Michigan about HOW TO EFFECTIVELY DISTINGUISH BETWEEN POSITIVE AND NEGATIVE ANGER IN A RELATIONSHIP. One of the biggest and most corrosive problems in relationships is anger. It destroys communication and often ends up causing great unhappiness and even ending the relationship. It is important for couples to learn how to deal with anger in an effective manner. Anger is quite useful if a person is treated unfairly or something has happened in their life that causes legitimate anger. Illegitimate anger is when someone tries to dominate and control someone else or just somebody who is picky, complaining and always finding fault trying to control the other person. Persons need to discuss their feelings in a manner that can problem solve and allow them to live effectively together. Compassion, love and understanding are very import in any successful marriage that effectively deals with anger issues. If they do not do this and love is leaving the relationship and being replaced with toxic anger, then they need to find ways to discuss what can be done to resolve the problems. If they cannot do this, then they need to consider meeting with a minister/priest, therapist or psychologist to try to find ways to resolve their anger problems. If they do not do this, that there is a good chance the relationship will end in a very unhappy manner.

A CONTROVERSIAL REPORT ON MASCULINITY FROM THE AMERICAN PSYCHOLOGICAL ASSOCIATION

Dr. John H. Braccio talks with Dave Akerly on the “Morning Wake-Up With Dave Akerly” radio show, on 1/15/19 on WLNS, 1320 a.m. in Lansing, Michigan about A CONTROVERSIAL REPORT ON MASCULINITY FROM THE AMERICAN PSYCHOLOGICAL ASSOCIATION.  I am amazed at how many psychologists and others have criticized this report. The main complaint is that traditional male strengths are reported as negative and could be used as a blueprint for therapy.  Assuming it is true men are less likely to seek therapy, this would surely expand the divide.  It also seems to demean a male as a protector and primary financial supporter of the wife and children if that traditional role is accepted by both spouses.  A further complaint is that a current ideological view of the world is the foundation of the report and not traditional solid research and peer review.

WHY PEOPLE FEEL THEY DO NOT DESERVE TO BE HAPPY AND HOW TO OVERCOME THIS FALSE BELIEF

Dr. John H. Braccio talks with Dave Akerly on the “Morning Wake-Up With Dave Akerly” radio show, on 1/8/19 on WLNS, 1320 a.m. in Lansing, Michigan about WHY PEOPLE FEEL THEY DO NOT DESERVE TO BE HAPPY AND HOW TO OVERCOME THIS FALSE BELIEF.  Reasons people believe this range from the feelings of soldiers who feel overpowering guilt for something they did or did not do that caused death or injury to a fellow soldier to low grade ongoing Depression that defines you as a person not worthy of anything worthwhile, let alone happiness. Various other reasons would include blaming self for childhood sexual or physical abuse, problems of their children and/or other family members, and feelings of Anxiety and/or Depression that are felt to be deserved and accepted as normal in a life where happiness does not have a place.  Strategies to overcome the ingrained belief people do not deserve happiness include substituting negative thoughts with positive thoughts on an ongoing basis, apologize for wrongs done and make up as much as possible for them, accept mistakes were made and move on to enjoy the present, and recognize the past cannot be changed but how it is interpreted and learned from will allow happiness.

For Christians, we celebrate the birth of Christ with Christmas Carols, family gatherings and church activities. We celebrate the man with the title of THE PRINCE OF PEACE. A few quotes of Jesus give all of us good goals to strive for:

    1. DO TO OTHERS WHATEVER YOU WOULD LIKE THEM TO DO TO YOU.
    2. THIS IS THE ESSENCE OF THE LAW AND THE PROPHETS
    3. TRULY I TELL YOU, WHATEVER YOU DID FOR ONE OF THE LEAST OF MY BROTHERS AND SISTERS OF MINE, YOU DID FOR ME.

Personally I have had wonderful Christmas family memories my whole life and am buoyant with excitement for the one this year.

WHY THE DEATH OF A SPOUSE IS OFTEN FOLLOWED SHORTLY BY THE OTHER

Dr. John H. Braccio talks with Dave Akerly on the “Morning Wake-Up With Dave Akerly” radio show, on 12/4/18 on WLNS, 1320 a.m.in Lansing, Michigan about WHY THE DEATH OF A SPOUSE IS OFTEN anamur bayan escort FOLLOWED SHORTLY BY THE OTHER. The death of a spouse is an overwhelmingly traumatic event. This is true even when someone has had an opportunity to prepare emotionally for the death. An early death of the other spouse is sometimes called the “WIDOWHOOD EFFECT”. Because of the emotional pain caused by the death the person has an increased vulnerability to both psychological and physical illnesses. Common psychological outcomes include Depression and Anxiety. Common physical outcomes are strokes and heart attacks. A large research study showed that rates of death doubled during the first three months after the death of a spouse. Things to do when one loses a spouse would include:

    1. SEEK OUT FAMILY AND FRIENDS TO INTERACT.
    2. SEEK OUT SPIRITUAL SUPPORT AS APPROPRIATE.
    3. ORGANIZE SELF IN A MANNER TO CARE FOR SELF EMOTIONALLY AND PHYSICALLY.
    4. REMEMBER AND CHERISH THE PAST BUT FIND NEW THINGS TO DO OR ACCOMPLISH GOALS FROM THE PAST THAT WERE NEVER BEGUN OR FINISHED.
    5. DO.NOT LET OTHERS DETERMINE HOW YOU WILL GRIEVE.
    6. AS DEEMED NECESSARY, SEEK OUT A THERAPIST TO HELP YOU WITH EMOTIONAL CONCERNS.
    7. SEE MEDICAL DOCTOR IF PHYSICAL SYMPTOMS DEVELOP.
