HOW TO SURVIVE WHEN YOU LIVE WITH A TOXIC SPOUSE/PARTNER

Dr. John H. Braccio talks with Dave Akerly on the “Morning Wake-Up With Dave Akerly” radio show, on 2/5/19 on WLNS, 1320 a.m. in Lansing, Michigan about HOW TO SURVIVE WHEN YOU LIVE WITH A TOXIC SPOUSE/PARTNER. Last week we discussed toxicity within relationships. Today we discuss how to survive when you live with the toxic spouse/partner. You must set boundaries that are essential to you and you must enforce them. You must determine if you are co-dependent and somehow actually allowing your spouse/partner to treat you poorly. We must all remember we teach people how to treat us. You must refuse to argue when your spouse/partner tries to use guilt, power or fear to have you drop your boundaries and go back to you accepting behaviors and outlooks that led to so much pain for you and gave so much power to the toxic person to hurt you. When setting boundaries, you must be aware the end of the relationship is a possible outcome when the boundaries are set and you enforce them. Toxic people do not like to stop their toxic behaviors and will do almost anything to maintain them.
