Dr. John H. Braccio talks with Dave Akerly on the “Morning Wake-Up With Dave Akerly” radio show, on 12/4/18 on WLNS, 1320 a.m.in Lansing, Michigan about WHY THE DEATH OF A SPOUSE IS OFTEN anamur bayan escort FOLLOWED SHORTLY BY THE OTHER. The death of a spouse is an overwhelmingly traumatic event. This is true even when someone has had an opportunity to prepare emotionally for the death. An early death of the other spouse is sometimes called the “WIDOWHOOD EFFECT”. Because of the emotional pain caused by the death the person has an increased vulnerability to both psychological and physical illnesses. Common psychological outcomes include Depression and Anxiety. Common physical outcomes are strokes and heart attacks. A large research study showed that rates of death doubled during the first three months after the death of a spouse. Things to do when one loses a spouse would include:
- SEEK OUT FAMILY AND FRIENDS TO INTERACT.
- SEEK OUT SPIRITUAL SUPPORT AS APPROPRIATE.
- ORGANIZE SELF IN A MANNER TO CARE FOR SELF EMOTIONALLY AND PHYSICALLY.
- REMEMBER AND CHERISH THE PAST BUT FIND NEW THINGS TO DO OR ACCOMPLISH GOALS FROM THE PAST THAT WERE NEVER BEGUN OR FINISHED.
- DO.NOT LET OTHERS DETERMINE HOW YOU WILL GRIEVE.
- AS DEEMED NECESSARY, SEEK OUT A THERAPIST TO HELP YOU WITH EMOTIONAL CONCERNS.
- SEE MEDICAL DOCTOR IF PHYSICAL SYMPTOMS DEVELOP.
